There's snow in the woods
but not enough to
warrant snowshoes.
We went for long walk
following the trails of
wild turkey, raccoon,
rabbit and deer.
We were close enough
behind the deer to see
the last one of the group
disappear over a
stone fence and into a
long abandoned orchard.
The old dog bounded off -
not so much in chase as
in the joy of the moment.
