mountains

remind me

to what
do i owe
the honour ?

the honour
of being misunderstood
and rejected for suggesting
an alternate view.
change
being one of
the few
constants
as you scurry
from blackberry
to ipod
the digtal record
of your life
will be digital dust
before you breath
your final breath.
if the dead sea scrolls
were on hard-drives
they would have been.
luckily
the wisdom
of this
dark age
will be
for ever
lost
and
as we come to realize
that upgrading the operating system
was not the kind of change that
was necessary,
jelly fish will
have replaced
rats in the subways
in the new atlantis

winter snow

the house is radiating
wood heat from
summer's sun
through
the stone floor

snow to your knees
still falling
beautiful
thanks to the
reliable old tractor
and the wood pile

new year

moments
of
insight in
accidental
juxtaposition
here
scrub oak
in the wintergarden
of a sculptor
on the Vineyard

distilled
in the focus
of freezing
as the tide rose
and sun
fell

on
Lucy
Vincent
Beach

the material world
improves
as you select
which
materials

new years
on a frozen beach
on Martha's Vineyard

futility:

the futility
of humanity-
when the secret
to your survival
is beneath
your heal
